"Took Off Running": Cowesett Coffee Brings Fresh Brews and Community to West Warwick

A new energetic hub has opened its doors inside the Cowesett Inn, offering locals a fresh spot for their morning routine. Cowesett Coffee, located at 226 Cowesett Avenue, is officially open for business, bringing a blend of specialty drinks, home-style breakfast, and community spirit to the heart of West Warwick.
Sonya Oliver, the manager of the new enterprise, says the reception has been immediate and enthusiastic.
"It's going really well," Oliver said. "Somebody said we 'took off running,' and I would say that is very accurate."
Oliver’s journey to the cafe was serendipitous. With over a decade of experience in the bartending industry and a background in administration, she initially applied for a bartending position at the Inn. However, after reviewing her resume, the ownership saw a different potential for her.
"He needed a manager for in there and I was interested in the position, so we kind of switched gears," Oliver explained. "And then the rest is history."
The cafe has been designed to cater to a wide variety of tastes, something Oliver felt was missing from the local area. She emphasized that the menu is built on flexibility, ensuring that whether a customer wants a traditional coffee, a sugar-free option, or a decadent dessert latte, they can find it.
"I really wanted to incorporate that in the menu here, that there's an option for everybody," Oliver noted. "We cater to people who have dietary restrictions or kind of prefer more of a sugar-free approach... we can pretty much accommodate it."
Beyond beverages, Cowesett Coffee offers a robust food menu. Breakfast is served from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., featuring sandwiches made with fresh-cracked eggs, croissants, and dedicated egg dishes. The counter also hosts a variety of grab-and-go items, including bagels, muffins, donuts, and cheesecakes. Oliver also made a point to include kid-friendly snacks and allergy-conscious options, drawing from her own experience as a mother of children with specific tastes and allergies.
For Oliver, the goal of Cowesett Coffee is to provide a quality experience that justifies the cost for her neighbors.
"The goal is to give the locals somewhere to go," she said. "I want something that's going to taste like I made it at home... And there was really nothing over here in the heart of West Warwick that really fit that bill. So, I wanted to create that."
Cowesett Coffee is open Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. While seating is available in the cafe area, spillover seating is available in the adjacent lounge areas. The cafe also offers delivery via DoorDash.
