For 35 years, Suzi Nance was a fixture in the local real estate market, running Capital Realty, a firm that had been in her family for over six decades. But while she was selling homes in Newport, Nance was quietly harboring a different ambition—one that would eventually lead her to become a renowned Change Strategist, Author, and Certified Hypnotherapist. "It was never my passion, but it was great and I loved it," Nance says of her time in real estate. "But about 15 years ago, I sort of tripped into hypnosis and found that was my true passion." Today, Nance is a sought-after health and wellness coach with advanced certifications in nutrition from Harvard Medical School. She works with hospitals, corporations, and individuals to help them break free from negative beliefs. However, her journey from realtor to healer began not in a classroom, but on the breakdown lane of I-95. The Turning Point Years ago, Nance found herself battling a mysterious autoimmune condition. Frustrated by a lack of answers from specialists in Providence and Boston, she hit a breaking point during rush hour traffic. "I literally pulled my car over... and I thought, 'Nobody is going to be able to fix me. I'm going to find an answer,'" Nance recalls. She began researching nutrition and supplements, but her studies kept pointing her toward the mind-body connection. To test her findings, she asked a niece—a self-proclaimed fast-food lover—if she could try hypnosis on her. The goal? To make her crave healthy food. "I hypnotized her... and she calls me up two days later," Nance laughs. "She goes, 'Okay, this is great. The thought of McDonald's makes me want to vomit, but all I can eat is cottage cheese. So could we throw a few more foods in there?'" Convinced by the results, Nance spent the next two years reading every book on the subject she could find before getting certified. Updating the Internal GPS Nance’s approach focuses on the conflict between the conscious and subconscious minds. She explains that while we may consciously want to lose weight or start a business, our subconscious often fights to keep us in our comfort zone. "The subconscious is like the original GPS," she explains. "Once something's in there, it doesn't want to change. It says, 'This is what we did yesterday. This is what we're going to do today.'" This disconnect is why so many people fail at New Year's resolutions. "You believe you're not going to eat the cookie, right up until you eat the cookie," she says. Through her practice, she helps clients "update the software" of their minds, bridging the gap between desire and action. A Life of Impact Since making her career pivot, Nance has achieved remarkable milestones. She lost over 100 pounds—a journey that landed her on the cover of First for Women magazine—and authored the Amazon bestseller BREAK FREE of Negative Beliefs and the Weight that Clings to Them. She also wrote PROJECT YOU: The Caregiver Toolkit, a resource commissioned for military caregivers. Nance’s office is located at 123 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI, and she sees clients virtually across the country. She offers private sessions, corporate wellness workshops, and retreats. For those looking to make 2026 their best year yet, she is launching "The Big Life Audit and Edit," a community-based program designed to improve different areas of life month by month.
