Rhode Island’s own John Perrotta has spent over three decades perfecting the art of making people laugh. As the driving force behind John Perrotta’s Comedy Factory, he has carved out a unique niche in the New England entertainment scene, combining two of life’s greatest pleasures: good food and hearty laughter.
Known for his signature "All You Can Eat, All You Can Laugh" dinner-comedy shows, Perrotta offers audiences a complete evening of entertainment. "We have a good time. People laugh, and a lot of our shows have a singer during dinner," Perrotta explained in a recent interview with the Rhode Island Wave. This winning formula pairs a hearty buffet—ranging from Italian feasts to Asian cuisine at local spots like Lemongrass—with live musical performances and a lineup of top-tier comedians.
Rather than packing massive stadiums, Perrotta prefers the intimacy of local restaurants and function rooms that host anywhere from 50 to 200 guests. This accessible approach means audiences don't have to navigate difficult parking or travel far for a great night out. "We bounce all over," Perrotta said, noting upcoming shows across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. By keeping the shows local, attendees can enjoy a stress-free, immersive evening that typically wraps up comfortably before 11:00 p.m.
For Perrotta, the laughs serve a much deeper purpose than simple entertainment. He recalled a poignant moment after a show at the Bonnet Shores Beach Club when a woman approached him in tears, thanking the comedians because she "really needed that."
"You never know what's going on in somebody's life that's in that audience," Perrotta reflected. "We're doing a good thing. I really realized as I've gotten older how important this is. You can leave a room full of people laughing, and they feel good when they leave. That's a great thing."
Beyond his own time on stage, Perrotta is deeply embedded in the local comedy ecosystem. He runs an annual six-week comedy class every September alongside fellow comedian Rockin' Joe Hebert to help foster new talent. He also pens a monthly interview column for the Rhode Island Wave, featuring comedy legends and Hollywood actors like Ed Regine and The Sopranos' Nick Santorelli. His dedication to helping others extends to his long-standing ties with comedy superstar Bill Burr, whom Perrotta booked during his early open-mic days before Burr went on to sell out arenas.
With an ever-expanding roster of venues and an unwavering passion for his craft, Perrotta shows no signs of slowing down. "When you have a passion for something, you'll go 100 miles an hour," he noted. "It's not about money; it's about making people laugh."
