Local Author Sharyn Haddad Vicente Brings Psychological Thrills to Northern Rhode Island

For lifelong Rhode Islander Sharyn Haddad Vicente, the darkest corners of the human mind are best explored right in her own backyard. An educator, artist, and Amazon bestselling author, Vicente is gearing up for the release of Stop Me, the fourth and final novel in her chilling Paige Vale Psychological Thriller series.
Born in Pawtucket and a resident of Cumberland since she was 15, Vicente always had a creative spark. However, her journey into thriller writing didn't begin until 2019. After sharing a compelling story idea with her daughter, Vicente was met with a simple challenge: "Put your money where your mouth is."
She began jotting down ideas, but between juggling multiple jobs, time was scarce. When the pandemic hit in 2020, Vicente suddenly found herself with an abundance of time. She picked up her pen once more, and within three months, she had completed her first novel, Love Me.
The Paige Vale series follows the titular protagonist, who, after surviving horrific events in Northern Rhode Island in the first book, goes on to become an FBI agent. The second and third books, Obey Me and Forgive Me, follow Paige's cases across the country, diving deep into true crime podcast culture and the dark secrets of California's wealthy elite. Finally, in Stop Me, Paige returns home to Rhode Island for a high school reunion where a new string of terrifying events unfolds.
Vicente’s background deeply informs her bone-chilling prose. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rhode Island College and a master’s degree in adult education from the University of Rhode Island. Today, she uses that expertise not only to craft intricate, twisted characters but also to teach writing courses at the Community College of Rhode Island.
"Most of the time, when authors write about Rhode Island, it's usually the southern part of the state—Newport and the beaches," Vicente notes. "I thought it was about time northern Rhode Island gets some attention." She uses real local locations as the backdrop for her gripping mysteries, giving residents a thrilling, albeit fictional, look at their hometowns.
Each book in the series is designed to be read as a standalone, allowing new readers to jump in anywhere. The covers themselves, starting with a design by Vicente's daughter for Love Me, serve as visual clues that play directly into the storylines.
