Fashion Meets Purpose: "Catwalk to Campground" Runway Show to Raise Funds for Autism Camp Scholarships

Providence, RI - ​Rhode Island's fashion community is coming together for a cause close to many hearts. On August 18th, local event producer Theresa Pierpaoli will host Catwalk to Campground, an intimate runway show designed to raise funds for the Autism Project's Summer Camp Scholarship Foundation.
The event, held at the Autism Project in Johnston, Rhode Island, will bring together local designers, models, a live musician, and even a storyteller for what promises to be an unforgettable evening. Doors open at 7 p.m., and with only 40 seats available, tickets are expected to sell fast.
Pierpaoli, a member of the Rhode Island Fashion Week planning committee, took over the event from her mentor, Olga Hawa, who launched the show years ago due to her personal connection to the autism community. "I'm very honored that she asked me to take over," said Pierpaoli. "I love putting a production together, especially when it's meaningful and can help families affected by autism."
For Pierpaoli, the cause is personal. Her son, Jason, will be attending Camp Wanna Go Again—the Autism Project's dedicated summer camp—for the very first time this July. "He's never been to camp before, so we're super excited for him," she said.
The camp, founded by Autism Project director Joanne Quinn, is open to individuals of all ages on the spectrum. For many families, it fills a critical gap. "A lot of kids with autism can't just go to a regular camp," Pierpaoli explained. "I've heard stories of kids getting kicked out. This camp was created specifically for them."
The evening's lineup includes designs from several Rhode Island-based creatives, all of whom have a personal connection to autism. Among the featured designers is Casual Reply, known for her hand-painted clothing. "It's absolutely beautiful—I can't wait to share pictures," said Pierpaoli. Following the runway show, designers will host a marketplace where guests can purchase pieces directly.
In addition to ticket sales, the event will feature raffle baskets, with all proceeds going toward camp scholarships. "We're hoping to raise enough money to get a lot of kids to go," said Pierpaoli.
Beyond the fundraising, Pierpaoli hopes the event will remind families that they are not alone. "It can be isolating," she said. "I think it's important to find community and find people who understand. And the Autism Project is just amazing—every individual I've met there is wonderful."
